A message to dads

God’s Word instructs fathers in Ephesians 6:4 to “not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.”

We’ve all seen how our words can immediately suck the emotional life out of our children. Unkind words, a harsh tone of voice… there’s many ways we as dads can cause our children to emotionally shut down.

We do it as adults to each other as well. I know; it’s happened to me.

So here’s a challenge to dads out there: remember God’s word to us (through the apostle Paul) and let’s also live up to Paul’s words in Ephesians 4:29 and not “use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to others who hear them.”
