Waiting on God (a football analogy)

It was explained to me today that God may be moving along a tangent in my life, that if I’m patient, I’ll cross that path and move towards success. Act impatiently, the counselor suggested, and I could move beyond God’s blessing and miss it entirely.

“Oh,” I explained. It’s sort of like the running back who just took the football from the quarterback and is still a few yards behind the line of scrimmage. If he explodes now he could outrun his own blockers and be tackled for no gain by the pursuing defense, or, he could be a little patient and wait for the blocks to develop and explode through the opening provided by his offensive line and make positive yards… even score a touchdown.

“Exactly,” the counselor said.
