God’s promise to be there with us

A friend’s wife recently went through some major surgery. It appears she will recover fully. This is good.

Nevertheless, it’s even better to watch or hear of those going through life’s trials and struggles, and to see people honestly and humbly praise God as they walk the dark path.

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

David’s message in the Psalm 23 tells us that life isn’t going to be easy. Jesus even promised as much, yet David recognizes that even during the darkest times of our lives, when the fog surrounds us and we can’t see anything, God is still right there. Like the child afraid of the dark because of what he can’t see other than what his imagination conjures up, it’s sometimes not easy for us because our spiritual enemy is all too willing to play the horror movie for our mind’s eye.

Still, God reminds us through our friends, through our church, and certainly through His Word, that He is right there with us.
